On February 2015, 30,000 ski fans will gather at Banderishka Poliana for the Ski World Cup Bansko. This exciting event will return to Bansko for the third time and will showcase the Super G program on February 28 followed by the Alpine combined on March 1. The event will draw 200 sports reporters from all over the world along with 47 TV stations, 24 of which will air live feed.
During a recent press conference, Minister of Youth and Sports Krassen Kralev and Minister of Tourism Nikolina Angelkova stated that the Bulgarian government has declared its solid support for the event. According to the Chairman of the Bulgarian Ski Federation, Tseko Minev, 1,000 locals are currently involved in the organization of the Bansko Ski World Cup. This is the third time for Bansko to host the ladies’ event and the Ski Federation is extremely honored to be chosen once again.
Mr. Minev further stated that hosting the World Cup would benefit the country’s economy in terms of tourism. It is a unique experience for the country, one that would bring high ratings and popular viewership from all over the world. Furthermore, this event would be the highlight for sports in Bulgaria and will greatly benefit the population. The World Cup will help encourage and inspire younger athletes as well as promote healthy growth and enthusiasm for sports in the country.
Because of the World Cup, tourists and sports fans from all over the world will experience the beauty and wonder that Bansko’s majestic resorts have to offer. According to Minister Angelkova who is an avid skier himself, this event will help promote tourism and economic prosperity for the country.
The Bansko World Cup 2015 will be represented by a friendly cartoon mascot called Zdravko. His character will appear in special boards, safety nets and digital screens in the more dangerous sections of the ski runs to remind skiers to ski safely.
