Bansko has proven yet again its reputation well deserved after it was appointed the Number One Ski Resort in Bulgaria for the fourth time in a row by the highest institution in the tourist industry.
The Pirin treasure town received an award, which is the equivalent of an Oscar statuette, by the Academy of World Ski Awards. Bansko received the award at a red-carpet ceremony at the “A-Rosa” hotel in Kitzbühel (Austria) during the third weekend of November, thus taking its place among the 25 top winter destinations on the planet. This is the second extremely prestigious award for the Winter Capital of the Balkans within the 3 days after Brussels nominated it European Town of Sports for 2017.
“Bansko can be proud for winning in the year with the highest voting rates in the competition’s 4-year history”, announced the World ski awards director Sion Rapson.
More than 1.6 million users participated in the online voting that continued for 16 weeks and elected the winners in the 4 major categories (“Best resort”, “Best hotel”, “Best boutique hotel”, and “Best chalet”) among nominations of 25 countries on 5 continents. According to the rules of the competition, the national winners were elected first, then among those were selected the world winners.
The 4 times champion for Bulgaria gave another winner. After the “Kempinski Grand Arena”, the representative of the oldest and most luxurious hotel chain in Europe, won the category for the best hotel three times, this year the award went to the “Premier Luxury Mountain Resort” hotel.
The award for the best ski resort in the world went for the third time to the legendary Val Thorens in France, pushing to the second place the hosting resort of Kitzbühel. The award for the best world hotel went to the American chain W in Verbier (Switzerland).
