European Label for Innovation and Good Governance at Local Level was awarded to Bansko Municipality. The procedure for the award of this distinction is held by the Ministry of Regional Development. The label is a moral award, a symbol of prestige and incentive for municipalities to improve their management in the service of civil society.
Bansko Municipality is highly assessed by all the 12 principles that underpin democratic governance, the quality of the provision of administrative services and best practices in the implementation of public policies. Administration activity is verified by objective criteria by two independent experts. These include self-assessment by the municipal council, as well as a survey among citizens with a questionnaire developed by the Council of Europe.
The 12 rules for good democratic governance are fair conduct, representation and public participation during the elections; responsiveness; efficiency and effectiveness; openness and transparency; rule of law; ethical conduct; competence and capacity; innovation and openness to change; sustainability and long-term orientation; sound financial management; human rights, cultural diversity and social cohesion and accountability.
