The Macedonian government has decided to contract with a private company, on the principle of public-private partnership, to provide emergency medical transport services HEMS and search and rescue (SAR).
The decision was taken at the last government meeting in Skopje, which took place on 29 October 2019. The public-private partnership agreement is concluded with the Macedonian company SARHEMS.

Under the contract, the HEMS and SAR system must be operational after six months and include two helicopters on two sites, which should reach most points in Macedonia in 15 minutes. Part of the flight costs will be covered by the health insurance of all Macedonian citizens, with the government separately subsidizing the operations.
