Tom Hines, Head of Political Section at the Embassy, delivered a talk to the Bulgarian Industrial Capital Association (Асоциация на индустриалния капитал в България) on 24 March. Tom explained to the business the UK’s objectives in the upcoming negotiations for our departure of the EU and presented the UK’s views on the future relations with the EU.

He stressed some of our key priorities which matter greatly to the business as well: we will pursue a bold and ambitious free trade agreement with the EU which should allow for the freest possible trade in goods and services between Britain and the EU’s member states. It should give British companies the maximum freedom to trade with and operate within European markets and vice versa. We will also welcome agreement to continue to collaborate with our European partners on major science, research, and technology initiatives.

Tom said: “ It is in no one’s interests for there to be a cliff-edge for business or a threat to stability, as we change from our existing relationship to a new partnership with the EU. We currently work closely with Bulgaria on a wide range of issues and we want this relationship to deepen and expand.”
