The Mayor of Bansko Georgi Ikonomov met with representatives of 11 countries who came in town for the Second Congress of the Association of sports journalists from Eastern Europe. Among them was the organization’s president and vice president of the International Association – Yannis Daras.
“You probably know Bansko as one of the most famous Ski resorts on the Balkans and Eastern Europe, but our goal is to make it and a five-star summer resort” said the mayor to reporters from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Greece, Macedonia, Moldova, Romania, Serbia, Turkey, Hungary, Croatia, and Montenegro. Ikonomov explained that the small mountain town is among the most famous winter resorts in the region and has developed seriously in the last 10-12 years. For this time, Bansko turned into European Ski Center.
“We register great tourist boom, but on this background our infrastructure development has slowed down. And now we work a lot in this direction. We put a lot of efforts to make Bansko and desired summer destination, emphasizing the opportunities for summer tourism, festivals, concerts, and other cultural events” added the mayor.
The second congress of the Association of sports journalists from Eastern Europe is held in Bansko from 1-st to 5-th of June. The main discussion topic is “The involvement of the media in the prevention of doping of young athletes and penalties for their parents, their coaches, and sports officials”.
