Over one million tourists have visited Pirin National Park in 2018

1 060 793 people have been in the park in Pirin Mountain during 2018 according to the annual report of the National Park Management. This has been recorded at the 7 observation points in the mountain and it is very likely that many more tourists and mountaineers have been there during this period of time.

As reported in the same document last year the park employees have cleaned 7 tourist paths, repaired 5 bridges and cleared the approach towards Baykusheva Mura (Baikushev’s pine is with an approximate age of about 1,300 years one of the oldest trees in the world and is a contemporary of Bulgaria’s founder, Khan Asparukh). In 2018 ten advertising campaigns for enhancing environmental culture were completed as well.

The 102 issued grazing permits during the year show that Pirin Mountain and is also used by farmers for their sheep, cattle and horses. 5389 cubic meters of wood were removed from the forest, 3024 cubic meters of which were cut – 2427 for heating purposes and 597 for construction works. The issued logging licenses are 565, but 700 were forseen.
