Bulgarian Albert Popov qualifies 6th in the slalom in Schladming (Austria).

The usual suspect Marcel Hirscher (Austria) destroyed the competition with 1:44.81 – 1.21 sec faster than the second one Alexis Pinturault (France), while Daniel Yule (Switzerland) was third on the podium.

This is the best ranking in Albert Popov’s career, who became 6th with 2.97 seconds behind the austrian superstar Hirscher. This is the first Bulgarian entry in the top 6 in the Ski World Cup since 1985, when Peter Popangelov skied to the same position in Park City (USA).

This is Popov’s second excellent performance within a few days after he ranked 9th at the Hahnenkamm slalom in Kitzbühel on January 26th, 2019.

The goal for Albert Popov now is a good performance at the 2019 Alpine World Championships in Are (Sweden) between February 4th and 17th. Then from February 22nd to 24th, Hirscher, Pinturault, Popov and company will compete at the Audi FIS World Cup Bansko 2019 at Banderishka Polyana.

“The World Championship is coming soon, I’m in good shape, keep your fingers crossed!”, said Popov on the day after the slalom in Schladming.
